Antiangiogenic Treament
Until recently, patients with liver cancer that has spread (metastasized) to other organs of the body had few available treatment options. Medical treatment of these patients has been mainly palliative, intended to slow the spread of the cancer and make the patient more comfortable. Now, however, new antiangiogenic drugs that block tumor blood vessel growth are altering the treatment landscape for liver cancer and a number of other common cancers. Because the liver is so rich with blood vessels, these new agents are particularly well suited to fight liver tumors.
